Beyond the Coffee

Our plan to drive positive change.

Sip with confidence

Coffee beans in a bagAt Costa, we recognize that to have a sustainable coffee business we need to invest in a sustainable coffee supply, ensuring that our coffee is grown in a way that protects the environment and allows the communities growing our coffee to thrive.

We source our whole bean and ground coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. The Rainforest Alliance is a non-profit organization that works to create a future in which people and nature thrive in harmony.

By working together with diverse stakeholders including farmers, businesses and consumers, the Rainforest Alliance is committed to drive meaningful change. Their work supports improving livelihoods, protect biodiversity, amplify the voices of farmers and forest communities, and help them mitigate and adapt to climate change.  Find out more at ra.org.

Our work with the Rainforest Alliance

We ensure that our whole bean and ground coffee comes from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. This means that for every cup of coffee we serve, we invest back into the coffee-growing communities we depend on.

A better future for nature, people and businesses

By working together with farmers, businesses and consumers, its aim is to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and farming communities, and help them adapt to climate change.

The Rainforest Alliance, and its little green frog seal, is recognized by companies and consumers around the world as a symbol of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Rainforest Alliance certification makes a huge impact across a whole range of different areas. These can be split up into three sections: people, planet and profit. Find out more at ra.org.

Building schools and futures

The farmers who grow coffee around the world are an essential part of our business – we couldn’t keep inspiring the world to love great coffee without them! However, we know that many coffee-growing communities are in remote rural areas in some of the world’s poorest countries, and children in these communities often have little or no access to education.

The Costa Foundation change a child's life story logoThe mission of the Costa Foundation is to fund schools and school projects in coffee-growing communities which provide the opportunity to access a safe, quality education. The charity does this by:

  • Building new schools or extending existing ones

  • Investing in water supplies and providing electricity

  • Furnishing the new buildings

  • Providing computers and other essential technology

  • Building toilets and teacher accommodation

  • Promoting gender equality

  • Developing land for students to grow crops.
